The masterful Warriors claimed an 8-5 win over Saints at French Fields on Saturday.
But it a weekend to forget for the Saints, who played twice but were unable to win either game.
Before going down to South Wagga they were beaten 3-1 by Turvey Park in the opening game of their doubleheader.
In that opening content, runs were scarce as both pitchers did an extremely good jobs of keep things tight and not giving the batters much at all to work with.
Paris Hall, 15, was the standout for Turvey Park, conceding only six hits and pitching five K-2s and no walks.
Saints’ Tessa McGlynn had only two K-2s, but had only two hits off her pitching.
Both of those hits were in Turvey Park’s first turn at bat when Jade Olsen and Julie-Ann Hallam each hit a left-field three bagger which scored Amanda Lenon, Sarah Carter and Olsen.
But that was the end of Turvey scoring.
In similar fashion, the Saints also had only one innings in which they scored and that was the top of the fourth innings when smart bunting and careless Turvey fielding allowed Seona Dwyer to cross the plate.
As has been well documented, Saints continued to do well in defence.
But it has been their offence which has seen them come undone at times this season, and that was the case again on Saturday with the girls in blue unable to get the bats firing in their quest for a winning score.
After a short break, Saints then had to front up against South Wagga Warriors, a tough assignment at the best of times, let alone as the second game of a doubleheader.
Each team was shut out in their first innings and by contrast to their first match, Saints scored five runs in their second turn at bat and then restricted the Warriors to two.
A combination of safe hits from Gemma McGlynn and Kadison Hofert and errors in the field allowed the five runs to cross the plate.
Carmel Hutchinson and Sam O’Neill scored for the Warriors.
Neither team troubled the scorer in their third innings, and after a nil-return in the Saints fourth, the Warriors decreased the margin when they added a single in the bottom of the fourth.
Strong batting by the Warriors saw them add another five runs in their final two innings giving them an 8-5 win and outright leadership.
In those final two innings, the batting spree was led by Layhnee Kearnes, Montana Kearnes, Simone Jorgensen, Kristy Tennison, Jess Grant and Shae Skillen.
The competition will resume on February 3.
