Wagga Crime Manager Detective Inspector Darren Cloake said police arrived at the house in Mumford Street about 4pm on Wednesday to execute the search warrant.
“We were met there with a large degree of hostility from some local residents but managed to undertake our duties without further hindrance,” Detective Inspector Cloake said.
Police say a 26-year-old was arrested and charged with hindering police after he allegedly tried to take a motorbike from the Mumford Street property.
“As a result that male has been charged and had bail refused and will face court,” Detective Inspector Cloake said.
“During the search warrant, there was a 17-year-old who had five outstanding warrants issued by the court. He, too, was arrested and will face court.”
The arrests come as police roll out Operation Kingsman across Wagga, Albury and Wodonga in response to a growing crime wave of property offences stretching across the three cities.
“In terms of the investigation, it’s continuing,” Detective Inspector Cloake said.
“Certainly we are aware that there are further people involved.”
Early Thursday morning a white Holden Commodore was stolen from an Albury address, and later seen in Wagga on Fernleigh Road, Glenfield Park, with seven occupants described as young males and females.
“We were told that during the course of their driving they were attempting to run people off the road,” Detective Inspector Cloake said.
“Certainly this is of concern to us as it’s a high-risk activity that the offenders are engaging in.”
On Thursday, the car was spotted again in Leeton, before a high-speed chase through Uranquinty was stopped due to safety concerns by police.
By Thursday afternoon, police in Albury had tracked the car down, and arrested four occupants, with a fifth on the run.
