Tuckies trailed 2-1 at the break, before kicking into gear and storming back to claim a thrilling 5-3 win.
Bailey Porter starred for the reigning premiers, expertly setting up three tries, while scoring one of her own for good measure.
Sarah Carter and Eliza Naseby rounded out the scorers for Tuckies, chipping in with two tries each.
AKW’s Vienna Randal was making plenty happen for her side and scored twice, while Phoebe Duncan did well to score her side’s second try.
But ultimately it was all Tuckies in crunch time, a result which naturally pleased team standout Porter.
“We’re a bit of a second-half team,” she said.
“That probably comes down to a lack of preparation before the game to be honest and then we finally get things going in the second-half.
Porter said her side managed to turn around just about every aspect of their game in the second-half.
“Our drives were much better in that second half and we were really going forward instead of messing around with the ball,” she said.
“We had cleaner dumps, cleaner play of the ball, it just all came together.
“At half-time we just spoke about the need to run hard and push the ball.
“They’re really good at running at us so we thought we better do it back to them, and also getting up when they’re attacking, which slowed them down and gave us more energy in defence.”
The win moves Tuckies six points clear of the second-placed Jets.
In the other women’s game, Young Guns downed Bar Up Bull Bars 4-3.
Meanwhile, The Casuals stunned MJR Electrics 9-6 in the men’s competition.
It was the Electrics’ first loss of the season.
In the other men’s game, Quolls downed Cobras 9-6 in the men’s league.
It was a disappointing result for Cobras co-coach Andrew Baggio, who had stressed the importance of jumping Quolls and into fourth spot before the Christmas break.
But captain Cade Price and electric young gun Jordan Little simply outclassed the Cobras throughout the night, Price running in four tries and Little scoring two.
Price faced little resistance on two of his tries, as the Cobras defence unraveled at times late in the contest.
Baggio fought valiantly for the Cobras, setting up three tries with his signature long ball down the line, while scoring one of his own.
Paul Heffernan was also highly active, scoring three.
