Officers in Albury, Wodonga and Wagga joined forces to investigate property and vehicle thefts in the region.
They are investigating whether a car fire on Bimbadeen Avenue in East Albury, which started about 4.15am on Monday, is linked to previous incidents.
A witness heard noises and saw about three young men get out of the car and into a nearby Holden Commodore before the first vehicle went up in flames.
He said the offenders appeared to be teenagers.
They fled the area and the first car was destroyed, with flames starting near a door.
The destroyed car – a white Ford Falcon wagon – ran on gas, but the cylinder did not rupture.
Firefighters attended and put out the flames.
Police scoured nearby homes for security camera footage.
It followed an incident in Ettamogah Rise Estate last Monday morning where two vehicles were torched.
The cars had been stolen from Wagga.
Offenders targeted nine unlocked cars in the estate for property.
Police remain concerned by the fact many car owners still leave valuables in their vehicles and chose not to lock them.
A car was also stolen from Whitehall Avenue in an aggravated home break-in during the same spree.
It was later recovered in Wagga.
Police arrested a 19-year-old man in Wagga last Tuesday and charged him with 30 offences, including arson, car theft, aggravated break-and-enter in company and more.
A 27-year-old woman was arrested at the same home and charged with having suspected stolen goods.
Police continue to investigate and anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
