It was only a matter of time but the announcement of Prince Harry and actress Meghan Markle’s engagement this week has sent Royalists’ heads spinning.
Fans of the Royal family or the television show Suits would be following this romance between the scallywag prince and his humanitarian love interest.
Many girls grow up wanting to be a princess but few actually have it happen, although that will not be Meghan’s official title after they are married (she is likely to be a Duchess).
It’s hard to say exactly what piques our interest in the Royal family but any time an engagement or pregnancy is announced or a baby or a wedding is photographed, it has us flicking around for more.
Some have a steady interest in the Commonwealth and the family in charge of it but others are just in it for the fashion.
The past 24 hours have been spent trying to find out every detail available about the proposal, how they met, the ring (which features a beautiful homage to his late mother, Diana) and the upcoming nuptials.
And come spring 2018, all eyes will be plastered to the television for the first glimpse of the wedding dress, which will no doubt spur a myriad of copycats in the wedding seasons to follow in Australia, America and Britain.
Perhaps it’s more than just the fashion that has us interested.
It’s the history, their customs, their practices that have us intrigued.
And Meghan is a breath of fresh air for this family.
It’s also refreshing for the rest of us to see a Royal marry someone outside of their normal social circle.
Meghan is a hip actress with a genuine interest in humanitarian work, a palate for fine food and plenty of stamps on her passport.
She’s had a taste of the spotlight in her own right but also revels in her privacy, perfect for a pending member of the Royal family.
She seems to be a genuine American sweetheart, just the right person to tame the British lad.
The couple met during a blind date and got engaged while cooking a roast chicken.
It’s the kind of ‘normal’ facets of an every day relationship that make this Royal pairing so enjoyable to watch.
Yes, Prince Harry has finally met his match.
