For most Australians, some things are just so purely Aussie that we don’t question their existence on January 26.

Sausage sandwiches, a swim in the river or backyard pool and listening to the Triple J Hottest 100.
For the Aboriginal community, January 26 is a painful reminder of something terrible in their ancestors’ history.
Australians wanting to celebrate their national day on January 26 has never been about disrespecting the Aboriginal community, it’s just tradition.
But in the past few years, there has been a significant push to see it through different eyes.
The change the date debate surrounding whether Australia Day should be celebrated on a different date than January 26 has been as divisive as the one on same-sex marriage.
There are those who would not want the date changed because it’s been that way for decades but others who think it is disrespectful.
No matter which side of the fence you sit on, there is no arguing that the Triple J’s decision to air their popular countdown on January 27 is a big move.
One of the most iconic parts of the traditional Australia Day has now actively shifted from January 26.
The national campaign was successful and it begs the question – is this the catalyst that could set a national precedent?
The move has already divided people on social media – some are boycotting Triple J and others are commending them for taking a stand.
Some would argue it’s the most questionable decision Triple J has made since allowing a Taylor Swift song into the countdown.
Others have said it’s actually un-Australian not to have the countdown on January 26, while others have suggested that it if it is to be moved, that it be to another public holiday.
If a company as public and renowned as them can take this stand, where does it leave the rest of us?
And what does it mean in 2019 when the fourth Saturday of the month is Australia Day?
Do they change the date again?
The Indigenous community see it as a step in the right direction and perhaps it is.
It will be interesting to see the fallout, if any, from this decision and if they revert to the old date if/when the countdown doesn’t rate as well.
