Crews will undertake the controlled burn in the area in the vicinity of Explorer Park on Bradman Drive from 9am until 1pm.
The burn will generate smoke and could be misconstrued as a unchecked fire, and the RFS is advising locals to take precautions such as closing windows and doors, removing washing from the clothes line, and making sure pets are kept in a protected area.
Passing motorists are advised to slow down and take extra care if driving through smoke, and keep the vehicle’s windows up and headlights on.
“Hazard reduction is a vital element in helping to reduce the intensity of bushfires,” RFS Operational Officer Bradley Stewart said.
“This controlled burn will help protect properties and assets in the Boorooma area and also assist firefighters to control any future bushfires,” Officer Stewart said.
The hazard reduction burn is being conducted while conditions are dry, but safe enough to control the burn, however RFS officers will be on alert during the operation.
