Wagga Tigers’ Brendan Myers and Griffith’s Nathan Richards will now turn their attention to Monday’s Rookie Draft where they will get a second chance at an AFL career.
Friday night’s AFL Draft was the first time since 2012 that no AFL Riverina products were selected.
Myers was considered the region’s best chance after being invited to attend the AFL Combine last month.
The positive for Myers and Richards is that in 2012, when no AFL Riverina teens were selected in the Draft, Zac Williams was picked up in the Rookie Draft and went on to forge an excellent AFL career with Greater Western Sydney.
Southern NSW AFL had some success with Wentworth’s Jarrod Brander going to West Coast with selection 13 and Albury’s Charlie Spargo headed to Melbourne with selection 29.
The Rookie Draft is on at 5.10pm on Monday.
