Five players have been selected across the men’s and women’s ACT team.

However CSU’s Claudia Obst is odd one out being the only representative not from Leeton.

The 18-year-old is joined by Ua Ravu and Cecilia Smith in the women’s team while the Phantoms are also represented by Simon Vunilagi and Emori Vulagi in the men’s.

While Obst is no stranger to playing against the nation’s best it the first time she has been selected in the open team.

After three years in the under 17s, she can’t wait to take on the bigger challenge.

“I’m pretty excited for it,” Obst said. “It will be a very good experience playing with older girls who have had more experience. 

“Playing at the top level will be an amazing experience.”

Obst was named Southern Inland’s best player in 2017 and has put in plenty of hard yards to make it to nationals.

She’s travelled to Canberra to training twice a week for over a month all while judging HSC commitments at well.

Obst is hoping the effort will be all worthwhile over the weekend.

“It has been pretty hard with school so I have had to miss a few training runs to complete my HSC,” she said.

“It was a pretty difficult year but you just have to get your priorities straight and make things work to do the things you love.”
