He’s got a wedding to help fund after all.
Better Cruise lines up in the RSM Audit Tax Consulting Stakes (320m) and Wagga trainer Tanya Skarratt is confident he will put in a strong showing after drawing box four.
“He’s going pretty good at the moment so he hope he wins,” Skarratt said.
“We need the money with our wedding coming up.”
Skarratt has taken over the training responsibilities from partner Robert Kemp as he continues to battle brain cancer.
While Kemp is still heavily involved, a new method from Skarratt has helped turn the greyhound’s form.
He’s won back-to-back races at Wagga and Temora and a treadmill regime has been credited for the change.
“I’ve had him for a couple of months and I just put him on the treadmill every morning and every afternoon,” she said.
“He doesn’t go to the slipping track or anything like that.
“We tape his metacarpal up too and it seems to be working a charm.
“He’s just been winning and winning.”
With Kemp’s illness, Skarratt has been grateful for all the help she has been receiving on race day with the 33 kilogram dog.
He’s simply too heavy for her to lift into the boxes and hopes the greyhound fraternity will continue to rally around the couple.
“I can’t walk the dog out and usually get someone to walk him out for me,” she said.
