The Boiled Lollies have instilled Adam Parker as head coach as they look to continue their strong run in the Southern Inland competition.
The club has finished in the top three in the past two seasons and believe Parker is the right man to lead them forward.
However he won’t be in charge of the first grade team.
Instead City has elected to have a head coach separate to the first grade coach.
Scott Callaghan will take over from Michael Kanck in the first grade role.
Parker believes he’ll be in more of an overseeing role, but is looking forward to the opportunity.
“It’s so all the teams are kinda going in the same direction,” Parker said.
“The emphasis will mainly be on the fitness side and the pre-season and as the comp starts we will hand over to the coaches.
“We have four very good coaches this season, including in our women’s, and I will be will overseeing that and if the coaches have any problems they will come to me.
“I won’t be in charge of a team, but helping the coaches and bouncing ideas off them.”
With the new role, Parker expects is will be a learning experience for all involved.
Parker is fairly new to Wagga but has a long association with the sport in both a coaching and refereeing capacity.
He is a life member at Blayney and also coached the Orange Emus colts team before moving to the South Coast and becoming involved with Bega.
However when the club folded he ventured to Canberra, mostly refereeing.
He’s also had experience coaching representative teams in the Central West.
After moving to Wagga in May the choice to link with City was a fairly straight forward one.
“They seemed to be a nice, friendly club,” Parker said.
“It seemed very accommodating and family orientated.
“In my opinion they are playing rugby for all the right reasons, have the right ethos, have a very good culture and that is what I wanted to be involved.”
Parker wants to take a more holistic approach at training rather than separate into individual grades.
He believes it will help when players move through the grades.
Lance Power will coach the second grade team, Greg Nugent the third grade while Kane Doyle will take over the women’s sevens.
Pre-season training will begin on December 7.
Anyone interested in playing is welcome to attend.
