The two sides drew 3-3 in a low-scoring affair which saw every try scorer made to work for it.
AKW looked to be in control in the back end of the second-half, leading 3-2 in a game where tries were about as rare as parking spaces in central Sydney.
But Nicole Absolum had other ideas, sneaking across the line to score what proved to be the final try of the game.
Jess Absolum had a half-chance to take the lead minutes later, but was momentarily blinded right as the ball was heading in her direction, with the sun lingering in a particularly troublesome part of the sky at this time of year.
To start the contest, it was the Tuckies who drew first blood via Bailey Porter.
Rhiannon Podmore eventually hit back after a long and considered Jets build-up.
Tuckies’ Madison Absolum and AKW’s Vienna Randal went blow-for-blow with scores of their own.
The Jets’ Matilda Vearing then handed her side a 3-2 lead before Tuckies equalised.
Randal later said her side needed to be more aggressive.
“When we play like them and really take it to their defence, it gets them a bit more shaken,” she said.
“We had our whole team available today which meant we could’ve afforded to do that a bit more.
“But it’s a tough one because they’re a hard side to play, they have good players on the field at all times which makes it hard to figure out a way to on top of them.”
In the other women’s game, Bar Up Bullbars disposed of Young Guns 9-3.
Imogen Robertson led the Bullbars’ potent attack with three tries.
In the men’s competition, MJR Electrics got the better of Katana Security Wizards once again, prevailing 7-4.
The Wizards started on the right note, coach Alex McKenzie wasting no time in splitting a pair of defenders with a dive over the line.
McKenzie’s move was so sudden it was as if someone had pushed the fast forward button.
But that was as much joy as the Wizards would experience for a long time, with MJR piling on the next five tries, two of which came from Jacob Mascini who finished the game with three.
Meanwhile, the Casuals downed Quolls 11-8.
Dylan McLachlan and Cameron Andrew were busy all night for the victorious Casuals, scoring three tries apiece.
The win ensures Quolls remain in fifth spot.
