More than 5700 students are gathering in Sydney for final rehearsals ahead of the Spectacular, which will be staged on Friday and Saturday, and feature a choir of 2700 voices and 2300 dancers.
North Wagga Public School teacher Trudy Standley, who accompanied the students on a train trip to Sydney on Tuesday, said all 12 of them were taking part in the Spectacular for the first time.
The young dancers have been rehearsing since January, Ms Standley said.
“They are very excited to be going,” she said.
Wagga High School teacher, Kathryn Fisher and Kooringal High graduate, Joanne Gilmour, who now teaches at Bonnyrigg High, are choreographing the event.
Ten students from Mount Austin High School have been selected for the event’s Aboriginal Dance Ensemble, while the school’s Jordan Everingham was chosen to be one of the featured dancers at this year’s event.
Jordan was selected for the B’Boys hip hop dance ensemble.
The Schools Spectacular, staged by the NSW Department of Education, is now in its 34th year.
In addition to the massed choir and dance troupes, the event will feature a 100-piece symphony orchestra, separate stage band, 44 solo singers and 145-featured dancers from public schools across NSW.
