Clevedon, 15, recently competed at the 2017 Australian National Busking Championships in Cooma this month and struck a chord with judges and audience members alike.
More than 200 competitors and regional finalists duked it out in the Under 18 category but Cleverdon’s class could not be denied, the Young product taking away the winners trophy and $500 cash for his dulcet tones and smooth grooves.
“It was a fun day (in Cooma) and I was really humbled to win,” he said.
The teenage sensation successfully competed to be listed a finalist and saved his best until last, convincing a panel of music judges with his compelling live performance on the main stage.
“There were quite a few strong competitors who I thought might take it out,” he admitted.
“But I am very excited (by the win).”
Cleverdon is a familiar face in Wagga and Cootamundra, having performed numerous times for HIT 93.1FM, Wagga RSL, Wagga’s Australia Day Talent Quest and Cootamundra’s Wattle Time festival.
He has also been a regular at regional festivals across NSW and the ACT, including Canberra’s Floriade, as well as gigging across the Riverina’s pub and club scene.
“I also very much enjoy writing original music in my home studio,” Cleverdon said.
“However I have not yet released anything – I struggle with lyrics but there is plenty of music written.”
A student at Hennessey Catholic College, Cleverdon has also been a long-time disciple of the Young Regional School of Music for piano, guitar and vocals and boasts Grade 7 AMEB piano certification.
“Music is all about having fun and enjoying yourself,” Cleverdon said.
“There is nothing better than when the crowd starts clapping or singing along.”
