The fire broke out just after 6am on Sunday causing concern from local residents who called police and the fire brigade.
Police believe the car is a Commodore, which was stolen from Sydney before being driven to Wagga and set on fire.
Hours before, police and the fire brigade were called to the same street where a potential disaster was centimetres away when a car smashed into a kiosk which provides electricity to the suburb.
Police said a blue Ford Falcon was travelling at speed when it failed to take a corner and smashed into the power box, with the impact pushing it centimetres off its base.
“Using the old term, it moved about six to seven inches, and had it caused the low voltage to touch with the high voltage lines, it would have cause enormous damage. It was just luck,” Station Commander Jeff Edwards from Turvey Park Fire Station said.
A male and female believed to have been in the car at the time left the scene before police arrived.
Police are now searching for the car’s owner.
