Families lined up to get a glimpse of Santa and his helpers as he prepared to take up temporary residence in the mall for photos until Christmas.
Not only will families be flocking to the malls to get a photographic keepsake and let the children put in their wishlist with Santa, but inevitable panic is about to set in.
Panic when people, especially those who haven’t started shopping, realise it’s about a month until Christmas.
No one likes crowded malls that are hard to manoeuvre around prams, children and shoppers but this Christmas you are being asked not to go elsewhere.
During the year, we’ve seen a myriad of shops close and open in the city.
And all the while, while we welcome big chains, it is nice to see a local starting their own business.
It’s the busiest shopping period of the year and it would be great to see those dollars being injected into local businesses.
Wagga independent businesses assist to keep our retail sector alive.
It is comprised of talented mums, dads, teenagers and those who are looking for a creative outlet.
Unfortunately, they also seem to be the businesses that have the highest turnover.
Shopping online is easy and often preferred but it’s vital dollars that could be injected into the local community.
Shopping local also sends a message that we want to see Wagga residents thrive in their ventures.
Some of the nicest handmade items, delicious tasty treats and pampering services are right in our backyard.
Some businesses even sell items necessary to allow you to make your own presents.
Go handmade or homemade this Christmas.
Embrace your creative side.
There’s no need to let your fingers do the walking to find that special gift that will cost more in postage.
We shake our heads every time we hear of a business closing down but there is something you can do about it.
Brave those crowds.
Pick the time you venture into town.
Park a couple of blocks away to avoid busy parking lots.
But let’s show locals that we support them and keep Wagga’s economy alive.
