With their clash with South Wagga washed out, along with the other two Wagga cricket fixtures, the Colts are guaranteed a place in the one-day final.
They will face either South Wagga or Lake Albert in the decider scheduled for December 2.
Colts are yet to taste defeat this season but with the clash with the also undefeated Blues shaped as their biggest test to date.
While disappointed to miss out on the weekend’s match, Kooringal Colts coach David Bolton was pleased to have secured their spot in the early decider.
“We’ve played very well to start the year and it is a good reward for guys,” Bolton said.
“Unfortunately due to various reasons the team has been chopping in changing each week but I guess that is the nature of cricket in Wagga.”
South Wagga have to defeat Lake Albert on Saturday to remain a chance of defending their title while Kooringal Colts tackle Wagga City.
Bolton doesn’t believe qualifying will change their approach.
“The points count towards the major season so the pressure is very much on,” he said. “The one-day stuff is just a bonus and we want to keep in contention for the possibility of a double chance down the track.”
The date for the one-day final could change as Wagga Cricket looks to accommodate the Wagga Sloggers Regional Bash appearance at the Sydney Cricket Ground on December 10.
