Three weeks out from the eastern Riverina zone championships – the first step in representative selection – the carnival is one of the final chances for athletes to tune up.
The club has had a nervous wait with rain about but president Hamish Wheatley is hopeful the weather gods, if not necessarily the sun, will be shining on them.
“I’m pretty confident we’ll be right,” Wheatley said. “I think the rain’s going to pass and we’ll be left with an overcast day. They’re predicting around 28C and it should be perfect conditions if it can maintain that.
The host club has 90 competitors entered in the carnival which caters for ‘tiny tots’ of around five, up to under 17s.
“Our athletes have been going well and this is our lead-up to zone, which will be in Temora (December 10) and then regionals which will be in Wollongong this year,” Wheatley said.
