Police said thieves smashed the front glass door about 4am Monday before entering the premises and making off with gold chains and other jewellery pieces.
“A total of five necklaces were stolen, valued at over $20,000 in total,” Police Inspector Peter McLay said.
Owner Brent Mehlstaubler has had the business for 33 years, which was originally out the front of the Sturt Mall, before relocating to 80 Baylis Street in 2011.
“I just came in at 4.30am to turn the alarm off and see the damage. Our tills are always empty so they just took some chains as far as we can tell,” Mr Mehlstaubler said.
He said it’s the first time he’s had trouble in 20 years after a spate in the early 1990’s.
“It’s just an inconvenience and a big cleanup for us now,” he said.
CCTV in the store had not been activated, however, police are hoping nearby shops can help identify those responsible.
“Police are seeking any information from the public who may have seen anyone, or persons acting suspiciously in the vicinity of 80 Baylis Street around 4am,” Inspector McLay said.
