After struggling to stay afloat the Commercial Club was thrown a lifeline by the RSL Club back in 2009.
The RSL Club put forward a merger proposal and after some deliberation and a member vote the two clubs became one.
“The club was on its knees and was requesting assistance,” RSL Club general manager Andrew Bell said.
Without the amalgamation the Commercial Club would have been forced to close its doors within a few years.
The amalgamation was a big thing for their members

“It’s been uphill ever since,” Mr Bell said.
After the merge the RSL Club poured more than $750,000 into refurbishing the Commercial Club and has continued to invest in renovations ever since.
The renovations transformed the tired club into the modern and inviting venue it is now.
