The event has “changed the lives” of many young women, empowering them to achieve their dreams and goals and become ambassadors for the city.
The quest offered entrants the opportunity to improve their confidence and learn valuable leadership skills. For Zoe Martin and Maddie Smith, it was the night of all nights.
The two women will work with local leaders, businesses and charities to help pioneer philanthropic efforts across the city after being named as the new Miss Wagga and Miss Community Princess, respectively.
Ms Martin was overcome with “many emotions” at the crowning.
“I am honoured to have been chosen as the ambassador for this city which I’ve only been in for this short year. I’ve already grown to love it and can’t imagine being anywhere else,” she said.
“The past year has been great, particularly working with the other girls. They’re all to thank as well and I’m looking forward to the year ahead with Maddie.”
The Leisure Company, Specialist Medical Resources Foundation, Amy St Clair Melanoma Trust, Ronald McDonald House, Saturday Morning Bowling League, Wagga Women’s Health and Country Hope were beneficiaries The Miss Wagga Quest supported this year.
“It’s been a wonderful year getting to know them and how they work and where the money getting raised is going,” Ms Martin said.
Winning Community Princess meant the world for Ms Smith who said “it means the city has put their trust in you”.
“The people that have been to our events trust that we are able to be ambassadors for the community and it’s beautiful to think that people actually know that you can do that,” she said.
“I want to be really engaged within the community attending all sorts of events with different groups you wouldn’t get to see otherwise.
“It’s been a fairly long and incredible journey. We put so much work in behind the scenes but to do it with the group of girls we’ve done it with has been amazing and I can’t wait to see the work that Zoe and I put in next year.”
The Miss Wagga Quest has raised more than $2 million for local charities since 1949.
