Carroll and Wagga Tigers teammate Ben Farrell have signed with the Farrer League club for 2018.
Carroll is a TRYC junior but crossed to Wagga Tigers as a promising teenager and made his senior debut as a 15-year-old.
He spent 2014 with Murray Bushrangers and Albury Tigers before spending 2015 in Melbourne with Eastern Football League division one club Blackburn.
Carroll returned to Tigers for the past two seasons, where he spent the majority of his time across half-forward.
TRYC captain-coach Tom Yates was happy to get the pair on board.
“Obviously Jimmy is a The Rock junior and is a big framed boy so he’ll probably play across the forward line for us,” Yates said.
“Ben will swap through the middle and up forward as well. Both are pretty versatile players and a bit of youth as well.”
Yates said the Magpies want to inject as much youth as possible.
“We’re targeting a bit of youth for our playing group this year, obviously with the under 17s starting as well,” he said.
“It will be handy having them to put pressure on spots.
“The age bracket of our side this year was a bit higher than most other clubs so we need some younger blokes coming through to step up.”
In further good news for TRYC, they have re-signed talented ruckman Lachie Hunter, assistant coach Tim Sullivan, as well as Matt and Ash Murray.
Sam Durnan and Ferg Inglis have moved back to Geelong for university, while Andrew Saddler has also moved to Queensland.
Experienced TRYC footballer and coach David Pieper has stepped up to take on the under 17 coaching position, a move the club is thrilled with.
“It’s massive and he’ll be great for the young boys,” Yates said.
“They will learn a fair bit from David and it will be very good for the club.”
Carroll and Farrell played in Tigers’ 2016 reserve grade premiership together.
Carroll played all 16 senior games this year and was in Tigers’ best six times. Farrell has played 15 first grade games over the past two seasons.
The Magpies hope to announce further signings in coming weeks.
