Wighton scored 18 tries in 19 games for Group Nine club Tullibigeal Lakes United last season.
He was also part of the Riverina under 23s team, where he impressed Josh Cale.
New Thunder coach Adrian Purtell is looking forward to having him on board for 2018.
Wighton’s speed is the thing that excites Purtell the most.
“I’ve hear he’s got lightning speed which I am hopeful we can utilise and he can be a dangerous weapon for us,” Purtell said.
While mostly a winger in Group 20, Purtell is looking forward to seeing what the 23-year-old can do at fullback for the Thunder.
“With his speed I think he could be quite dangerous at fullback,” he said.
“It is always a positive he can play both positions though and have that option.”
Wighton is a cousin of Canberra Raiders back Jack Wighton.
While things aren’t progressing as fast as Purtell has hoped, he’s happy with where the club is headed.
However Levi Freeman is undecided on his future.
