Kevin Withers – also known as “Haveachat” – was abashed to learn his daily acts of kindness were the subject of social media praise last week.
Mr Withers has been the school crossing supervisor at Kildare Catholic College for three years, making sure students are safe as they cross Edmondson Street.
But he said his week-day job was about more than directing traffic.
Mr Withers said it was his reason to get out of bed every morning.
“I love the job,” My Withers said. “It’s fun.”
A Facebook post praising the former electrician as a “top bloke”, received more than 300 likes and more than 30 comments on Thursday evening.
School parents and passers-by said Mr Withers’s smile and wave made their day, lighting up the lives of drivers and pedestrians alike.
“It makes my day too,” Mr Withers said.
“Just seeing the people and the smiles of a morning ... and the kids in the back of a car waving ... it’s really nice.”
