Coleman street was closed for the day following the 10am accident, and investigators were on the scene until the early evening taking measurements, photographs and detailing the events that related to the two-car accident.
The Crash investigation Unit conducted a series of controlled speed stops to help clarify the exact speed the cars were travelling to cause the crash, and the condition of the road which saw the ute pushed up to 40 metres following impact.
A coronial report into the crash is being prepared.
UPDATE 5.30pm: The Crash Investigation Unit is continuing its work at the scene of a fatal crash in Coleman Street.
The road remains closed to traffic.
EARLIER: One man is dead and three more injured after a high speed car crash on Coleman Street, Turvey Park.
The 53-year-old Wagga man was driving a ute when it is understood he was hit by a blue VE SV6 Commodore sedan driven by a P-plater around 10am this morning.
Witnesses say the blue Commodore looked like it was involved in a street race with another car, and was trying to overtake another car when it collided with the ute.
The impact pushed the ute 40 metres along the road until it stopped outside the KU Kookaburra Preschool.
Emergency crews arrived quickly on the scene and worked to free the driver of the ute, and three occupants of the blue Commodore.
Two 21-year-old men and a 20-year-old man were taken to Wagga Wagga Rural Referral Hospital in stable conditions.
Coleman Street has been closed off in both directions from Edmondson and Docker Streets, with Sydney’s Crash Investigation Unit en route to Wagga to inspect the fatal accident site.
Police say the road is expected to be closed for the day.

Several people have been freed from the wreck of a multi-vehicle crash in Turvey Park.
Police, paramedics, NSW Fire and Rescue and the Wagga Volunteer Rescue Associaton are on scene at the intersection of Coleman and Trevor streets.
It is understood a blue Holden sedan and a Ford Falcon tray back ute collided at an intersection around 10am.
The major accident has seen Coleman Street closed from Edmondson Street to Docker Street.
NSW Police’s crash investigation unit is on believed to be on the way to probe further into the circumstances that led to the collision.
