A request for tender was recently advertised seeking asbestos removal work at buildings 109, 012, 049 and at the chicken pick around building 050.
A spokesperson from the Defence Department described the scope of works as “minor asbestos remediation”.
The full scope of the works cannot be viewed without signing and returning a confidentiality agreement.
However, the Defence Department spokesperson provided some detail as to the nature of the work.
“This involves the removal of asbestos-containing floor tiles in building 109, asbestos containing sealant in building 012, asbestos containing eaves and wall linings in building 049, and removal of asbestos containing material in the vicinity of building 050,” they said.
The contract was first advertised on the federal government tender website Aus Tender on October 13, with applications closing on November 14.
The Daily Advertiser asked the department whether any asbestos had been disturbed and if there was any danger of exposure but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
To be successful in obtaining a contact, the work must be completed prior to April 30 next year.
In mid-2015, the department spent around $1.5 million on general repairs to the Army Recruit Training Centre, including asbestos removal and remediation, patching and painting of internal and external structures and removal and replacement of storm water down pipes, guttering, fascias and barge boards.
