The future of the building industry is something the HIA as a whole has always been very passionate about and the Wagga Branch has also shared in this passion.
This year they took the passion one step further by introducing a new award, the Young Builder of the Year.
“This award category was the conceived by the Wagga Branch to identify young builders in our region who are establishing a name for themselves and who are producing quality work,” HIA Wagga Branch chairman Glenn Sewell said.
Jai Warden was the first winning of the new award.
“We were up against some good competition,” he said.
“By no means did I think we were going to win it.”
Mr Warden hadn’t even entered the award until he was told he should have a go.
“Being the first year I didn’t know we should enter it,” he said.
“It’s a great award, it gives potential clients confidence in going with a young builder because we’re backed by the industry.”
Mr Warden started his business, Jai Warden Building, in 2008 after finishing his apprenticeship and doing some subcontract work.
It started with just himself and an apprentice doing some work around town and has grown to three qualified staff working on extensions, renovations, new homes and commercial properties.
