The humble Wagga man was extremely surprised, and proud, to included on the roll.
Mr Balding’s inductions follows the likes of Brian Kennedy, Richard Bostock Senior, Phil Croker, Darryl Kelly and Douglas Martin.
“It’s an honour to be thought of in that way by my peers,” he said.
“It was a complete surprise but it was a nice surprise.
“I feel the work I’m being rewarded for was a collaborative effort of the committee over the past 15 years.
“It should award the committee not just the individual.
“Other people on the committee are just as deserving so I’ll treat this award as if it is an award for the serving committee.”
Many members of the HIA Wagga Branch were founding members with Mr Balding paying special thanks to them.
“There are several founding members I worked with from the start,” he said.
“Peter Hurst and Wayne Carter in particular. Col Colley and Tony Mcpherson were both founding members who retired from the committee recently after significant involvement.”
Mr Balding was also grateful for the support he has received from his own business and also from his family. Without that support he wouldn’t have been able to give his time to the committee.
HIA Wagga Branch Chairman Glenn Sewell presented Mr Balding with his induction at the awards night describing him as a man “who has worked tirelessly for the housing industry.”
“The Riverina Branch has had a history of recognising those members of the community who have committed themselves to the furtherance of the housing industry,” he said.
“This is a prestigious honour and one which is only bestowed upon those within the industry who are not only held in high regard by their peers but also who provide services to this industry above and beyond self interest.
“Tony is someone who truly commits himself 100 per cent to business, industry and the community.”
