MATER Dei Catholic College produced an impressive run chase to down arch-rivals Kildare Catholic College in the Downie Trophy opens cricket on Monday.

Mater Dei cruised to an eight-wicket victory on the back of a strong partnership between Harry Rosengren and Jack Carey at Bolton Park.
Kildare batted first and finished with 8-172 from their 45 overs. Mater Dei passed the total with eight wickets in hand.
Rosengren led the charge with an unbeaten 65, and received good support from Jack Carey, who finished 47 not out.
Earlier in the day, Louis Grigg snared 5-33 off his nine overs with the ball for Mater Dei. Daniel Coates also proved valuable support with 2-15 off seven overs.
Mater Dei also enjoyed a comfortable win over Kildare in the year seven to nine Berg Shield match on Tuesday.
Kildare were dismissed for 74 and Mater Dei passed the total with nine overs to spare. Damon Apps top scored for Mater Dei with 36.
The win progresses Mater Dei to the second round of both competitions, where they will face Leeton’s St Francis de Sales Regional College.
