It will be the third year the Coota Bollywood All Stars have have lit up Wagga’s Fusion Multicultural Street Festival with music, dance and “sparkle”.
The event shares vibrant sights, dynamic sounds and tantalising tastes from more than 100 countries, 107 languages and 62 belief systems, celebrating diversity and unity as part of the Global Angel Wings Project.
Group coordinator Fiona Braybrooks said the celebration was always colourful, vibrant and happy.
“It’s a way to experience cultures in a country space,” Ms Braybrooks said.
“It’s really special.”
Ms Braybrooks said a promotional video for the weekend’s event was available on Youtube and invited residents to “follow (them) to Fusion”.
Wagga Council’s director of community, Janice Summerhayes said the Global Angel Wings Project served as a reminder of mankind’s ‘humanity’ and ‘equality’.
She said the worldwide cause, which originated on the streets of Los Angeles five-years ago, was ultimately what Fusion was all about.
“It’s a celebration of culture, traditions and unity,” Ms Summerhayes said.
“While at Fusion enjoying food, music, art and culture from all corners of our community, you can have a photo in front of the giant hand wings at the front of the library.”
More then 10,000 residents and visitors will experience a colourful line-up of headline acts, including critically acclaimed songwriter Holly Throsby, Triple J Unearthed winner Thelma Plum and alternative pop artist Elki.
Entertainment will also include acts from Old Spice, The Bearded Bakers, Stiltuesque and Cumbia Massive., with six community performances from the Tintenfisch all-abilities band, visiting from Wagga Wagga’s German Sister City Nordlingen.
The delegation from Nordlingen will join the festivities as part of the 50th anniversary of the ‘twinning’ of the cities, while a delegation from Wagga Wagga’s American Sister City Leavenworth.
Ms Summerhayes said festival-goers could also enjoy mouthwatering delicacies from 25 different countries.
She said:
“From Afghani to Vietnamese, the diverse range of cuisines will transform Baylis Street into a World Food Village”, with “authentic and modern street style bites”.
The free multicultural festival will kick off at the Civic Precinct this Saturday, October 21, from 4.30pm and will conclude at 9.30pm.
