The clash between the perennial grand finalists will be the first of the season for Turvey, who will gear up for a second game against the Saints, after their match with the Warriors.
Like the Warriors and the Saints, Turvey Park has a change in personnel, with several of last season’s players not playing this season.
Missing from Saturday’s team are pitcher, Kate Looney, outfielder, Jamila Piercy, and utility players, Kalee Gibbons and Nicole Baldry.
Turvey will look to use Academy players, Paris Hall, Charli McNaughton and Karina Dennis, all of whom had a taste of the top grade last season, to fill the vacancies.
The Warriors strength again looks to be its batting with the consistency of such players as Jess Swaysland, Kristy Mohr and Shae Skillen and the power of the Kearnes: Jane, Montana and Layhnee, combining well to bring in the runs.
With a game under their belt, the Warriors will be primed for the game with Turvey who’ll be making their season debut.
Seasoned Turvey players, Amanda Gooden, Jane Wadley, Jade Olsen, Amanda Lenon, Belinda Dennis and Sarah Carter will, hopefully, find form quickly to show the way to their younger team mates.
In the second match, the Saints will hope to continue in the form they displayed in the opening match against the Warriors.
Pitcher, Tessa McGlynn, worked well with catcher, Kadison Hofert, to limit the strong Warriors’ batting line-up to just one run, which was a Montana Kearnes home run.
If Turvey is to conquer the Saints, they will have to not only restrict the Saints runs, but bat well themselves.
The Saints’ Desi Calder, Gemma McGlynn, Kadison Hofert and Tessa McGlynn all had safe hits last Saturday and will hope to bat as well this Saturday.
