The Bulls captain and vice captain helped overcome at slow start against Kooringal Colts at Robertson Oval on Saturday.
In early trouble at 1-8 off their first four overs, Smeeth and Robertson quickly turned the tide with some powerful hitting.
Robertson came to the crease with the Bulls in trouble at 3-41 before really taking to the Colts attack.
Smeeth was impressed by Robertson’s inning of an unbeaten 59 and was more than happy to take a back seat on his way to 71 in the 65-run win.
“I took it upon myself to try and bat for as many overs as possible knowing that if I gave Kurt the strike he hits it as hard as anyone going around,” Smeeth said.
Despite a shaky start, Smeeth wasn’t overly concerned before they finished their 20 overs at 4-164.
“They bowled pretty well and fielded pretty well at the start but we knew we had a bit of firepower in the back end,” Smeeth said.
“We weren’t too concerned about the slow start.”
The total was too for the Colts, who were bowled out for 99 to loss both Twenty20 games.
No Kooringal batsman made it to 20 with Zac Hines the top scorer with 16.
He was one of Sean Gaynor’s three wickets.
Gaynor finished with 3-7 off two overs and was well supported by Tom Doig and Denzil Noack, who took two each.
The win sets up a clash with Wagga RSL on Saturday.
