Included in Widdison’s double was the feature race as As Bad As Tyson ($2.10) scored a dominant win in the Lillypilly Wines Lilly Pilly Cup (1150m).
Kayla Nisbet hooked As Bad As Tyson to the outside in the home straight and he let down strongly to win by 2¼ lengths from Reine Happy ($5.00) and Hangin’ With Willy ($5.50).
Widdison teamed up with Nick Souquet earlier for a win with Steve’s Choice ($10.00) in the Guildford’s General Transport Benchmark 57 Handicap (1050m).
Widdison is considering a tilt at next month’s $70,000 Snake Gully Cup (1400m) at Gundagai with As Bad As Tyson.
“He’s a good honest horse and he’s going well,” Widdison said.
“I did think one of those restricted races over the Flemington carnival would be good for him but races like the Stan Sadleir Stakes and the Snake Gully Cup are options for him as well.
“I think he’ll stretch out to 1400 metres.”
As Bad As Tyson was supposed to run at Flemington late last month but was a late scratching due to an incident loading the float.
“We thought he was going well heading to Flemington the other week, we thought it was a suitable race and would have run well in that,” he said.
"He ran well today. That’s what we expected him to do.”
Geoff Duryea and Rebeka Prest also combined for a double with Carlistos ($6.00) and Szyslak ($7.00).
Souquet also grabbed a double, helping Beaujeen ($2.10) to a long-awaited win for Phil Sweeney.
