After losing two people he loved to suicide Jarrod Edyvean couldn’t sit by and do nothing.

The 23-year-old Coolamon man is gearing up to shear for 12 hours straight in a bid to raise awareness for mental health in rural areas.

Mr Edyvean has been shearing for the past two years and wants to put his trade and his skills to the test during the marathon shearing event.

Losing his uncle and one of his best friends to suicide  motivated him to do something difficult in their honour.

“The pain I will go through is nothing compared to the pain we have suffered through losing our loved ones and what they must have went through on a daily basis,” he said.

His efforts are being backed by the Music 4 Mates committee which is a local group working towards raising awareness of suicide and mental health issues.

Mr Edyvean will shear from 7.30am to 7.30pm on October 14 at the Coolamon Sport and Recreation Club.
