Crowds are set to pack the grandstands at the Lockhart race course for the 25th year.
Friday October 6 will see horses, and people, return to the track after having to cancel last year due to wet weather.
Lockhart Picnic Race Club president Jamie Urquhart is looking forward to the celebrations.
“We are encouraging all past committee members and race goers to come back and join in the celebrations of 25 years,” he said.
Lockhart has hosted successful race meets since starting.
They have only been forced to cancel on three occasions, 2016 due to wet weather, 2010 due to flooding and when equine influenza broke out.
“We actually hosted sheep races that year instead and it was really successful,” Jamie said.
Many of the current committee members were also on the committee when it started.
Jamie’s father was one of the founding members of the club while Jamie himself has been on the committee for 10 years.
“Once you sign on you’ve signed up for life I think,” Jamie joked.
“We’ve have a loyal and strong committe base for the past 25 years.”

The races look set to continue successfully for the next 25 years thanks to this strong committee and plenty of support from sponsors.
“We’ve got a solid core of loyal supporters that have been good to us which we need,” Jamie said.
“We also have good volunteers and get a strong crowd every year to support us.”
The club is not-for-profit with proceeds from the club going back into the local community.
Gates open for this year’s race meet at 12pm with the first race at 1.30pm.
A range of fashions on the field categories will be judged on the day with prizes on offer from local businesses.
The Lockhart races are a BYO race day with a trackside bar also available.
Be prepared for the day with cash as there are no ATM or eftpos facilities available at the racecourse but they are available in town.
Gate entry is $20 per person with under 16s free.

On the day buses will run to and from Lockhart Ex-Servicemen's Club.
