It will take much longer, says Wagga councillor Paul Funnell, to overcome the red tape mentality that saw the fines issued in the first place.
“To be fair the rangers were simply carrying out the policy of Wagga City Council, but for goodness sake, it’s a policy, and we have discretionary powers,” said Councillor Funnell.
For the first time in nearly 40 years, signs promoting Wollundry Rotary’s Sunday market, “Sprout and About” were taken down and confiscated by council rangers.
Councillor Funnell’s motion saw the fine scrapped, allowing the impounded signs, valued at $100 each, returned.
“If we pick on one of the city’s most respected charities, that gives 100 per cent to charity, where will it end?” Cr Funnell said.
Wollundry Rotary’s markets have raised $3 million for charity.
