Imagine a world where space travel was powered by steam.
That’s the fantasy world that Steam Punk enthusiasts embraced at the North Wagga Hall on Saturday night.
More than 60 people escaped to an alternate reality powered by steam, dressed to the nines in recycled, unique creations.
The genre is described as a Victorian science fiction – recalling a time when fiction writers saw space travel as a possibility.
Organiser Jim Rees said it was a chance to “act like a child” again.
“It’s a chance to dress up in a world that’s a bit bland and grey,” organiser Jim Rees said.
“People are so busy in their work and day to day lives, it’s pure escapism but to support a really good community cause.”
With all proceeds raised for Wagga’s Demonstration Gardens, Mr Rees said there were lots of new, enthusiastic faces attending the event and showing their support.
“People really went all out, making a big effort and going to a lot of trouble which is nice for all of us, ” Mr Rees said.
“People took great pride in making their outfits, especially with their make up, so it was very successful.”
