A 40-year-old Harden man was has nearly lost his leg after taking a shortcut across the railway lines during the early hours of Sunday morning.

The man had been drinking at a local hotel and after being refused more service, decided to walk home.
He had been offered a lift with the hotel’s courtesy bus service, but he refused.
Detective Inspector Scott Wilkinson, from Cootamundra Local Area Command, warned about the dangers of using railway corridors.
“A Harden man had an evening on the turps at a local hotel and decided to take a shortcut on rail corridor,” Detective Inspector Wilkinson said.
“He made it to the platform and the southbound train has collected his leg, nearly severing it.
“He survived that, they got him to Canberra Hospital.
“He has been lucky, it looks like they will save his leg.”
