The men in red claimed a 7-6 win over Katana Security Wizards at Jubilee Park on Tuesday night.
Ben Jeffery led the way for the Casuals, scoring the first three tries of the contest, while teammate Cameron Andrews was active all night.
Wizards found themselves down 7-5 in crunch time, however a late score to Kassidy Argus gave them a glimmer of hope.
But time expired before his men could find the equaliser.
Casuals co-organiser Zac Graham was a happy man post-game.
“It definitely wasn’t a bad start to the season,” he said.
“We shouldn’t go too badly this year if we can put it together.”
In the other men’s game, reigning premiers MJR Electrics downed Advanced Communications Cobras 5-4.
In the women’s competition, Don Tuckwell’s Audio claimed an 8-4 win over reigning premiers AKW Jets.
Coach Jess Absolum was in hot form and led from the front, running in three tries.
But it was AKW Jets who looked to be the more active side early on, as they showed off their foot speed.
Jets young gun Sophie Crouch drew first blood, showing no signs fatigue on that play despite having recently returned from the National Youth Champions.
But it was not long before Gabrielle Suckling hit back with a try for Don Tuckwell’s Audio.
Cathy Salmon worked hard for the Jets and was responsible for her side’s second and third scores.
But Don Tuckwell’s - a side which boasts former Australian representatives in Nicole, Jess Absolum and Maddison Absolum - were ultimately too much for last year’s premiers to handle.
Jess Absolum said her side’s loose, unstructured style of play – which lay in stark contrast to AKW – was serving them well.
“We just like to play what’s in front of us,” she said.
“We have a lot of experience too, so that gives us the luxury to play that way.”
The team’s leader said the returns of Nicole and Maddison Absolum had given her side a major shot in the arm.
“It’ll be really handy to have that sort of depth in your lineup,” she said.
“Last year we were struggling to find seven girls and now we have 14.”
In other women’s action, Bar Up Bullbars played out a 2-2 draw with Young Guns.
