For more than 100 years Kooringal Stud has been proudly owned and operated by the Lamont family who first moved to the property with their children in 1910.
Today Stuart and Penny Lamont run the stud with their children, Angus, James, Richard and Georgie.
The family are celebrating the fifth generation at Kooringal with Angus and Jenna’s daughters Sophia and Arabella enjoying the surrounds of family life on the land.
The youngest members of the family are fortunate to have their great-grandmother, Joan, who is the cherished monarch of the family and celebrated her 92nd birthday earlier this month.
“She has great pride in watching the developments and the younger generation following the passion of their father and forebears,” Penny said.
The family-run business operates like a well-oiled machine with family working closely with dedicated staff including Woody, Liz, Lucy, Gabby, Will and a terrific team of vet and equine students from CSU.

Penny believes Stuart has inherited outstanding diplomatic management from his father Colin, and the ability to guide and develop passion.
“We are extremely fortunate to have our four children involved and to participate with the farm and in particular the stud activities,” Penny said.
“To watch the desire and ability of youth to grow and develop through everyday challenges and to be rewarded by hard work is extremely satisfying and we are grateful to have the opportunity to share the experience with our own children.”
To have our children return to a niche farming enterprise with such passion and dedication is quite unique and gives Stuart and I great pride and confidence in the future.
Jum, in conjunction with Stuart and the boys, handles the media, website and advertising for the stud and Georgie spent two seasons assisting with foaling down more than 100 mares whilst completing her nursing degree by correspondence.
Angus has a passion for breeding and pedigrees, he does all the corrective farrier work and heads the yearling barn during sales preparation.
Richie manages the farming and pastures along with the structural building and maintenance programs, everything on farm is under the watchful eye and capable hands of Stuart.
