Five people were issued infringement notices and slapped with $550 fines for failure to quit licensed premises or remaining in the vicinity after being asked to leave.
A further three men were issued with notices for offensive behaviour, namely public urination.
Inspector Peter McClay said police were pleased with how most party-goers conducted themselves throughout the day and evening, with no reports of assaults or injuries.
“Considering the number of people out and about with not only the races but finals, generally the majority were pretty well behaved.” he said.
A 25-year-old male was issued an infringement notice for public urination in the late afternoon at the Murrumbidgee Turf Club and a 31-year-old male was caught in the same act on Baylis Street at 2am.
“Offensive behavior has always been a focus of ours and will continue to be a focus,” Inspector McClay said.
“Now we’re coming into the warmer months and coming up to New Year’s Eve, you can expect to see a lot more police around of evenings.”
On the region’s roads, a 28-year-old male provisional driver was pulled over on the Olympic Highway near Uranquinty at 4.15pm.
He blew a low range blood alcohol reading of 0.68 and was escorted by police to Wagga Local Area Command, where he received a summons to appear at Wagga Local Court.
“The message we’d really like to get out there is not to drink and drive, and that’s including the next morning after they’ve had a skin full,” Inspector McClay said.
