Thunder bowler Gurinder Sandhu and NSW teammate Luke Hackett were in the city on Monday looking to create more interest in the sport as summer approaches.
Sandhu and Hackett will spend three days in the city as part of the NSW Country Blitz.
The majority of it will be spent in schools looking to inspire youngsters to take part in the sport.
Sandhu hopes to put an emphasis on kids having fun while playing the game.
“It is good to start the talk about cricket while visiting a few schools,” Sandhu said.
“It’s all about trying to get as many kids involved in cricket as we can.
“There are different formats for the different age groups now so I think cricket is only going to get more interesting and more fun to play for young kids.
“As many kids as we can get to start playing cricket the better it is and even at us at this age we still play for fun.”
Sandhu, who played two one-day internationals for Australia in 2015, is looking to rediscover the form that put him in national spotlight in the coming season.
“There is a fair bit of improvement that can happen from last year,” he said.
“I’ve been working pretty hard during the pre-season so things are looking ok.”
After the success of last year’s Border Bash between the Thunder and the Melbourne Stars, officials are hoping for a bigger crowd for the warm-up clash at Lavington Sportsground on December 12.
