But the home side never dropped their heads and equalised in the 30th minute when captain Ryan McKenzie beat the keeper to a loose a ball in a mad scramble, before tapping it into the back of the net.
United’s Ethan Schiller then found the back of the net with a deft header late in the game.
It was the seemingly inevitable breakthrough following a series of ominous advances from the orange and white.
United coach David McGowan said it was refreshing to see his side finish the game strongly.
“I’m mostly pleased with the second-half, we’ve struggled with that all year,” he said.
“We were creating those chances, which we’ve always done, but today we put them away.
“The way we came back was great to see.
“I’ve told the guys that every game we should be doing it for the club and doing the club proud.”
South Wagga had their chances in the second-half and hit the post on one occasion, but just couldn’t finish.
Warriors captain Prince Thompson did his best to create from midfield, and fired from deep himself on four occasions.
South Wagga faces Tolland at Rawlings Park on Sunday, while United takes on Junee at the same venue.
Both sides will then battle it out for the Pascoe Plate along with Cootamundra and Tumut.
