The planetarium has an IMAX type screen that covers a 360 degree dome, Gary Starr from Starr’s Planetarium said.
“We project the stars in real time, true to life and we can take the kids on a journey to the planets and constellations, and have a look at how day and night works,” he said.
“It’s one of those things where the kids can go on a journey into space, see the universe and experience a sense of awe they don’t get to every day.”
In one of Mr Starr’s “favourite” movies, children are taken on a journey in search of aliens.
“We have a look at our solar system and how it sits within our galaxy,” he said.
“Then we talk about how many stars there and could be in the universe.
“Once we’ve decided there is so many stars and planets in the universe going around, we go on a journey to find aliens.”
Combined with animation and real-time imagery, audiences will experience a remarkable display of the night sky on a massive scale.
Programs and partnerships leader at Wagga Library, Christine Bolton is over the moon that kids will be able to experience the cosmic display.
“Science is all about inspiring people,” she said.
“Astronomy as the oldest science is something that we are completed fascinated with a species.
“I think it’s really exciting to bring these stores to our kids and the community.”
