The six members of The Ocean Party started from humble beginnings in Wagga and will be releasing their seventh album, Beauty Point, this week.
It’s great to look back and see how far they’ve come, band member Lachlan Denton said.
“Most of us went to Wagga high and played music together in different bands,” he said.
“When we were growing up, there was this event on at the library every Friday night where they invited local artists on stage to perform.
“Some of us met through that as well and it’s a bit nostalgic looking back on that.”
The band will kick off their tour in Yass this Friday, before wrapping up in Wagga at The Birdhouse this November.
It’s a more matured record, Lachlan said, and “pretty melancholic”.
“There’s a song on the record called Memorial Flame Freeze which is the first song that we’ve ever written lyrics to as a band,” he said.
“Normally everyone writes their own lyrics for the songs.
“We wrote that song in Stanmore Park and finished the lyrics off in one of our guitarists homes at Beauty Point in Wagga.
It’s “a song about Wagga,” Lachlan said, as he expressed his excitement in coming back home to the city.
“It’s always fun to come back to Wagga because we get to sleep in our comfortable beds at our parents’ homes,” he said.
"We get food cooked for us, are able to raid the cupboards and get our clothes Washed too.”
