Michael Dillon spoke to members of the Country Women’s Association about his experiences in Nepal and shared a documentary he filmed about Sir Edmund.
CSU lecturer Wendy De Luca also spoke about her work in improving education in Nepal.
Sir Edmund successfully reach the summit of Mt Everest in 1953 and afterwards formed the Himalayan Foundation to help the Sherpa people.
This foundation has built numerous schools, as well as air strips and hospitals.
Mr Dillon, who also works with the foundation, has visited Nepal about 20 times and worked with Sir Edmund in the latter part of the climber’s life.
“In the earthquake two years ago, 30,000 classrooms were irreparably destroyed. A lot of the foundation’s work right now is seeing those repaired,” he said.
