The orchestra is an “exact replica” of the original 1940’s band, according to musical director Rick Gerber, and it a celebration that will mark its 80th anniversary.
“There are five saxophones, four trumpets, four trombones, piano, bass and drums,” he said.
“Plus there is both a male and female singer.”
The particular line-up, Mr Gerber said, is mandatory for all performances that are played to ensure authenticity and no “watered down” sound.
During the war years, Mr Gerber’s father had a collection of jukeboxes, and would regularly keep them updated with new record releases.
“The older records were brought home where my earliest memories were learning how to put a record on the home phonograph,” he said.
The orchestra will play a mammoth 45 shows across Australia during their tour and will perform at the Civic Theatre this September 12.
