The 18-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, sat in custody contemplating his fate and the serious criminal charges ahead, when the case was mentioned in Wagga Children’s Court.
From cans of soft drink to at least eight stolen vehicles, it is alleged he broke into or attempted to break into 21 homes or businesses in less than five years.
Police allege one break-in resulted in the theft of $40,500 worth of property, including a large haul of jewellery.
The crime spree wasn’t limited to ordinary residential homes, with a community men’s shed and Erin Earth, an environmental facility, also allegedly targeted.
Cigarettes, cash, laptops, wallets, car keys and alcohol were just some of the items police allege the boy stole, with DNA results allegedly linking him to break-ins and car thefts as far back as the day after his 14th birthday.
The accused also faces several knowingly carried in stolen vehicle charges, with police alleging he rode in at least eight stolen vehicles.
The case was mentioned in less than two minutes and no pleas were entered on Wednesday, with the case adjourned until August 8.
The 18-year-old was arrested when he reported for bail on June 9 and last faced court on June 30, as he wept while he was refused bail.
Magistrate Erin Kennedy told the court there was an unacceptable risk of the accused re-offending when she refused bail in June, as he wept from Junee jail.
