FOR something a little bit different for breakfast, smoko or lunch, get into Industry@33 and check out the menu of hearty meals on offer.
Owned and operated by Kosta and Angela Papaioanou, Industry@33 has been open for just about three months now after a complete re-fit and re-branding.
“The previous owners had closed the business down and we saw it as a good opportunity to expand our food experience,” Kosta said.
The Papaioanou name is well known in Wagga takeaway food circles, but Industry@33 is something out of the ordinary for Kosta and Angela.
“It was an opportunity to jump into something different; you can’t rest on your laurels, you have to try and push the boundaries,” Kosta said.
“This is a little bit different to what we do. It is more of an early riser, brunch type of gig.
“It is a different type of food, home-style cooking almost. We have teamed up with a really cluey chef.”
This advertising feature is supported by the following business:
The staff of eight includes Kosta and Angela, with experienced Wagga chef Jade Merlehan running the kitchen.
“We were very lucky to get Jade, we went through an extensive recruitment process,” Kosta said.
“There was a real match with Jade. We are trying to get really creative in our menu.
“It is a leap of faith for us, trying to find out what people want out there.
“It is not just traditional takeaway. We try and give people something different. Some people like different, some people like what they have every day.”
The menu includes burgers, pasta dishes and rice dishes, while O’Brien’s Wagga Hot Bake Bakery pies go down a treat and there is also a sandwich bar and coffee. The specials change daily.
Industry@33 is putting together a database of customers wanting to receive daily specials updates via SMS. To join, private message the Facebook page with your name, mobile number and workplace, or sign up in store.
Kosta said the first three months of trade had been encouraging.
“It’s building up steadily,” he said. “We’re starting to see the same people coming back.
“It’s about trying to learn what people want and when they want it - morning rushes, smoko rushes.
“We want to deliver a quality product that is value for money.”
Following a family tradition
Owner of Industry@33 Kosta Papaioanou is no stranger to the food industry in the Riverina.
“I’ve been in food all my life, I’m the third generation in Wagga,” Kosta said.
Kosta is best known as the owner of the the iconic New Oceanic Take Away in Morgan Street for the last nine years – and at Kooringal Mall for the last three years – but the business has been in his family for 38 years.
Originally established in 1975 by the Hatzipetros family, the Papaioanou family took over operations in 1979.
Prior to that, Kosta’s late father Archie and his mother Harriet owned and operated the Blue Sea Milk Bar at the Turvey Tops shopping centre for over 13 years.
However, the family’s restaurant history goes back to Kosta’s grandfather, Danny Zarimes, who started one of the Riverina’s first traditional take away cafés – Danny's Café - in Junee in the mid 40s.
