A special celebration event – dubbed The Long Lunch – will be held on August 19 at the Hildasid Community Farm site.
The organisation, which was previously known as Kurrajong-Waratah, has described 2017 as “special time for Kurrajong”.
“This year, we proudly celebrate 60 years of supporting people with a disability to lead the life of their choice,” a representative said.
“As we ready for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), we pause to reflect on our wonderful achievements and look forward to more great things to come, including one of our boldest projects to date – the Hildasid Community Farm.”
The Hildasid farm is being developed on land on Gregadoo Road gifted to Kurrajong by Dick and Maisie Nash in 2007.
According to Kurrajong, the Hildasid project has reached a “major building phase”.
“Hildasid will provide a place for people with a disability and a wide range of community groups to connect and engage in meaningful activities,” the representative said.
“It’s the perfect location for creative arts, developing skills and interests, knowledge sharing, community gardening, animal rearing, and simply doing the things people choose.”
The development of Hildasid last year received a $1.2 million boost in Federal Government funding.
“It will provide such a meaningful difference for so many people right throughout the Riverina,” Mr McCormack said.
At that time, Kurrajong development services manager Cathie Smith, welcomed the “brighter future” that would be offered to people with disabilities after many years of planning.
“That was the beginning of our dream and it’s taken quite a few years to get to this point, but we’re elated to say the plans are now in place.”
The Long Lunch at Hildasid Farm will begin at 1pm on Saturday, August 19. Plans for the day will include a charity auction and live entertainment.
